VELUX roof windows

Daylight, from above.

Centre-pivot windows and the two most-used flashing kits are on the shelf at Shepley, and the rest of the range comes in to order — along with blinds, accessories and installation if you want it.

Two pine-finished VELUX centre-pivot roof windows set into the sloping ceiling of a
loft room, both propped open, with sunlight falling across a sofa below.

Why a roof window

It does what a wall window can't.

Glazing set into the slope of a roof takes its light from the open sky rather than from across the street, so a loft conversion, a landing or a back extension gets daylight that a wall window simply can't reach.

The trick is picking the right one. Type, size, finish and flashing all depend on your roof covering and its pitch, and getting any of them wrong is an expensive mistake. Bring us the details and we'll work through it with you.

We keep the centre-pivot windows and the EDW and EDL flashings in stock, because those cover most roofs around here. Anything else — top-hung, flat roof, sun tunnels, the less common flashings, blinds — we order in for you. Ask at the counter and we'll tell you what the lead time looks like.

The range

Which type do you need?

GGL & GGUIn stock

Centre-pivot

The classic roof window. The sash pivots about its centre, so it clears furniture placed beneath it and rotates right round for cleaning from inside. Operated by the bar along the top, which means it still works when the window is out of easy reach.

GPL & GPUTo order

Top-hung

Hinged at the top and pushed open from the bottom, giving an unobstructed view out and a balcony-like feel. Best where the window sits low enough in the roof to lean out of. Still rotates for cleaning.

Flat roof windows

For extensions and flat-roofed rooms. Curved glazing suits a true 0° roof and sheds water and dirt naturally; flat glass suits pitches from 2° to 15°. Available fixed or opening, including electric and solar versions.

Rigid & flexibleTo order

Sun tunnels

For a hallway, landing, bathroom or walk-in wardrobe where a full window isn't possible. A reflective tube carries daylight from the roof down to a ceiling diffuser, passing on up to 98% of it. Rigid where the run is straight, flexible where it has to dodge pipes or beams.

Finish & operation

Pine or white, by hand or by remote.

Lacquered pine

A clear-lacquered natural pine finish inside. The warmer option, and the usual choice for bedrooms and living space. Centre-pivot GGL, top-hung GPL.

White polyurethane

A durable, moisture-resistant white finish with no visible joints. The sensible choice for bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms. Centre-pivot GGU, top-hung GPU.

Electric & solar

Out of reach, or simply easier by remote. Electric runs off the mains and opens from a wall switch; solar needs no wiring at all. Both carry a rain sensor that shuts the window for you when the weather turns.

Reading the code

Sizes, decoded.

A VELUX size code is two letters and a number — the letters set the width of the outer frame, the number sets the height. An MK04 is 780 mm by 978 mm. If you're replacing an old window, the code is on the plate behind the sash.

Flashings

The part that keeps the water out.

A roof window is only as watertight as the flashing kit around it, and the right kit depends on what your roof is covered with and how deep you want the window to sit. Tell us the covering and the pitch and we'll match it.

Supply and fit

We can have it installed for you.

Fitting a roof window means opening up a roof, trimming rafters and making the whole thing watertight again. It isn't a job to take on lightly, and it isn't one VELUX carry out themselves.

If you'd rather not arrange it yourself, we can. Tell us what you're after and we'll quote for the window, the flashing and the fitting together — one price, and one number to ring if anything needs sorting.
